Accessible websites: Accessible to everyone. A real advantage for you. Accessibility is a key component of an inclusive digital world. It determines whether people have access to information, services, and experiences—or are excluded from them. At the same time, requirements are increasing, both legally and from users. But it quickly becomes clear: accessibility isn’t an either/or situation. There are different requirements, different target audiences, and, accordingly, different solutions. That’s exactly why we at Rocket rely on a scalable approach. First things first: the technical foundation Before we even talk about tools, features, or certifications, accessibility starts somewhere entirely different: at the very foundation of the website. We deliberately build our websites without using page builders, relying instead on the WordPress core (Gutenberg). This offers significant advantages: cleaner, more structured code, better performance, clear content for screen readers, and an optimal foundation for accessible solutions. Or to put it simply: If the foundation is right, everything else becomes possible in the first place. That’s why we don’t offer a one-size-fits-all solution, but rather clearly defined approaches tailored to your needs, budget, and target audience. 1. Foundation – the solid foundation Here, we lay the technical and structural foundation for an accessible website. Our goal is to provide a clean, stable, and future-proof solution—ideal for anyone who wants to build on a solid foundation from the very start. Typical ingredients include: Development without a page builder (Gutenberg) semantically clean programming clear structure and navigation good performance 2. Plus – noticeably improved accessibility This approach makes accessibility a tangible experience. The website becomes easier to use for a much wider audience, without requiring full compliance with all the requirements of a standard. The focus is on: Integration of an accessibility tool (e.g., OneTap) improved readability (e.g., contrast, font sizes, reading modes) advanced accessibility features (e.g., keyboard navigation, link highlighting, text-to-speech) 3. Pro – a comprehensive solution with a clear focus on standards This is where a comprehensive, professional solution takes shape. Accessibility is approached strategically and implemented consistently—from concept to content. The goal is to achieve a high level of compliance with recognized accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG). These include, among other things: Accessibility Plan (Target Audiences and Requirements) UX and Design Principles for Accessibility technical implementation (e.g., screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation) Content Guidelines (Alt Text, Structure, Language) Testing (automated and manual) Accessibility Statement 4. Audit – Inspection and Certification (optional) For added assurance, the website can be audited by an external party. This ensures transparency and provides a reliable assessment of accessibility—ideal for institutions, government agencies, or companies with compliance requirements. Typical ingredients include: External accessibility audit (e.g., using Access for All) detailed test report specific recommendations for action Optional: Certification or label And what exactly do the WCAG levels mean? The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines define international standards: WCAG Level A reduces basic barriers WCAG AA sets a high standard for accessibility and is the most relevant standard today WCAG AAA outlines the most stringent requirements, which are rarely fully implemented in practice Bottom line: The right approach is the one that works for you Accessibility isn't a fixed goal, but a journey. What matters isn't getting everything perfect right away, but consciously choosing the right starting point—with a solid foundation, clear priorities, and a solution that can grow with you. That’s exactly why we developed our approaches: so that you’re not just “accessible,” but can find the right solution for your website.
