Employee magazine - highlight of internal communication

The employee newsletter is a tried and tested means of efficiently disseminating information within a company. But is it really true that the classic employee newsletter is still relevant in today's digital era? The answer is yes. Whether in printed form, as a digital version or as a combination of both - the employee magazine remains a key element in regularly informing employees about company decisions, news and personal stories. Through targeted content, it creates transparency, promotes cohesion and supports understanding of corporate goals.

The term "newspaper" is used for printed, digital and combined forms (multi-channel publishing). And all three are about the enormously important internal communication. Specifically, content relating to the following topics:

  • Management communication (creating understanding, communicating management decisions)
  • Updates (news from the areas of companies, brands and projects)
  • People (reports on employees provide cohesion and entertainment)
  • HR information (e.g. new entrants)
Employee magazine

It is undisputed that only well-informed employees think for themselves and take responsibility. Well-managed companies are aware of this fact and periodically review the degree of up-to-dateness, the design, new technical possibilities and thus also the necessity of a relaunch. For us, one thing is certain: the "employee magazine" will not just survive, it will gain in importance. With regard to the forms and channels of communication, we see the following special features:

Special features of printed employee newspapers

They can be read and taken anywhere. For example, they can be found in the living room at home and are not only read by employees, but also by their family members. This creates understanding, loyalty and a good reputation. They can also be used as external communication tools, for example, business partners or potential employees are interested in entertaining company information. Even customers can be considered as a target group. By reading them, they gain an insight into the "inner workings" of the company, which can promote a lasting and cooperative relationship.

Special features of digital employee newsletters

They reflect the spirit of the times and convey digital, emotional content such as videos and animations. Thanks to the integration of social media elements, they allow a dialog between employees. This added value leads to more lively content and offers the opportunity to receive valuable feedback on the published content. Companies with several locations benefit from uncomplicated, cost-effective distribution. This sometimes allows publication cycles to be shortened.

It is crucial that a company has an "employee magazine". The form in which it is published and the focus of its content depends on the corporate culture and communication needs. We generally recommend a permeable combination of printed and digital instruments. Specifically, this could be a business social media platform, supplemented by a monthly newsletter and a periodic printed "employee newspaper".
