Digital annual report: Success story cemsuisse

Digital annual report Initial situation: cemsuisse, the Swiss Cement Industry Association, wanted to gradually digitalize the entire process - from the invitation and registration for the Annual General Meeting to the creation of the actual annual report - and take advantage of the many benefits of an online annual report.

In addition, industry personalities should be shown in video statements in the digital annual report and at the Annual General Meeting.

In its annual reports, cemsuisse publishes key figures on annual production, sales and the environmental impact of the Swiss cement industry and reports on the industry's progress in the areas ofCO2 reduction and sustainability.

Goals

  • Digitize the invitation and registration process and thus save resources (including financial ones)
  • Digitize your annual report and reap the benefits
  • Introducing moving images as a new emotional medium

The customer

cemsuisse, the Association of the Swiss Cement Industry, represents the interests of the industry at national and international level vis-à-vis politicians, administration, associations, the media and the public.

Procedure from the exchange to the digital annual report

In close cooperation with cemsuisse, our Rocket crew rethought and revised the entire process surrounding the Annual General Meeting and Annual Report from scratch: from the invitation and registration for the Annual General Meeting to the dispatch of the Annual Report and the use of moving images at the Annual General Meeting.

Initially, it was important to be able to do without a postal reply envelope. Online registration via a landing page was the solution. This saves costs and conserves internal resources that the manual transfer of registrations had previously consumed.

We then enriched the digital annual report with contemporary media such as video and animated infographics. The videos give a much better insight into the activities of cemsuisse, can also be used at the AGM and provide a realistic insight into the cement plants. The AGMs are held physically as usual and serve as important occasions for personal exchange. In future, the AGMs are to be further digitalized. For example, the invitation could also be sent electronically in future (instead of by letter with a QR code leading to the landing page with the registration form, as was the case this year) and, if necessary, a summary of the report could be dispensed with. However, this will be done step by step and tailored to the needs of the target audience.

Performance measurement

The registrations were received as usual. No one complained about the lack of postal returns. On the contrary: many of those invited were pleased with the simpler registration process and the fact that they didn't have to go to the letterbox.

The online annual report reaches an audience via social media that far exceeds the previously manageable number of recipients. In this way, cemsuisse's concerns are being disseminated much more widely.

And the conceptual work and the associated initial outlay will pay off all the more from next year, as the foundations have now been laid for the coming years.

Key learnings from the digital annual report

  1. Measurability: Online marketing measures are measurable. This makes it possible to clearly analyze whether the goals set have been met. Until now, it was hardly possible to measure who reads the annual report at all, let alone which section and for how long.
  2. Optimal financial use: Funds are invested in emotional media and moving images instead of in postage and printing, thereby generating real added value.
  3. Presence: Previously, the target audience was limited to the addressees of the annual report. Now the Facts and Figures are reaching a much wider audience.
